First heard on the 2010 children’s album, Sing Me To Sleep – Indie Lullabies, Stars‘ cover of The Smiths’ “Asleep” (the B-side to their 1985 single, “The Boy With The Thorn In His Side”) has been thoughtfully included on the Canadian quintet’s new Far From Home EP.
Also featuring four alternate “Breakglass” versions of songs from Stars’ 2012 album, The North, the EP is being offered as a free download to fans to celebrate the band’s ongoing world tour. “Asleep” isn’t the first time that Stars has paid tribute to The Smiths, whom they count as an influence, having covered “This Charming Man” on their 2001 debut, Nightsongs.
