In February, Annie Lennox released a solo retrospective titled, well, The Annie Lennox Collection. Just last Friday, I noticed on her Facebook fan site that she’d posted a new audio/video treat, “Backwards/Forwards.” She’d turned over her masters to DJ Earworm, tasking him with tying her various tunes into a single song and video. Other than that simple directive, he had free license to do as he wished.
“Her music expresses much harship and sadness, but also defiance, joy and triumph,” DJ Earworm says on his site, “and I wanted the mashup to reflect that journey.”
Mission accomplished, as “Backwards/Forwards” is brilliant, creatively mixing and matching Lennox’s impressive body of work. I love that “Shining Light” (a new track featured on her Collection) is threaded throughout:

And if you don’t have The Annie Lennox Collection, might I suggest springing for the deluxe edition?
