Cansei de Ser Sexy, better known as CSS, has been kicking around its native Brazil since 2003. The band enjoyed a big break when their song “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex” was featured in an iPod advert in 2007.
In April, CSS released “Rat Is Dead (Rage)” as a free download. Though it’s been a few months, I think the track still merits a mention for those who may have missed it. There was, after all, no assist from Apple this time around.
“Rat Is Dead (Rage)” steals a page from the Pixies, with CSS mixing in some vintage Cure for good measure. Lead singer Lovefoxxx’s vocals bring Suzanne Vega to mind (yes, really), but lest you think this is “Luka With The Lid Off,” the band taps into a frenetic energy that I can only assume must be anathema to the understated singer-songwriter:
