Music-wise, most days I wish I lived in the UK. The grass may not be any greener across the pond, but it’s the only place to get my hands on a certain pink cassette.
On June 13, Bright Light Bright Light celebrates the release of his debut album, Make Me Believe In Hope (out 6/4), with a launch party in London. The first 50 ticket pre-orders for the gig include a special limited-edition pink cassette with two bootleg versions of his album. Side A features Bright Light Bright Light’s vocals vs. classic instrumentals, while Side B is his instrumentals vs. classic vocals.
If you’ve been following Bright Light Bright Light’s SoundCloud page (or Popservations on Twitter), you’ve already grabbed a few of these special bootleg mixes, which marry his original tracks with such ’90s dance classics as Robin S’s “Show Me Love,” Corona’s “Rhythm Of The Night,” and Gat Decor’s “Passion.”
Now Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” gets the Bright Light Bright Light bootleg treatment, with his excellent 2011 single, “Disco Moment,” riding the “La da dee la da da” of Waters’ 1991 house-pop hit.
Since I’ve had “Disco Moment” on repeat whilst at the gym the past couple of days, I’m happy to have this new mix to soundtrack my workout. (Also, holy crap: “Gypsy Woman” is 20 years old!)
While the pink cassette that these bootleg mixes will appear on together is a limited edition, I hope Bright Light Bright Light continues to post them for us all to download. I can’t quite justify the cost to jet across the Atlantic for a cassette, though I can’t say I’m not tempted.
