Wild Light aren’t the only musicians in a Golden State of mind, it seems. Tori Amos, who returns next Tuesday with her tenth studio album, Abnormally Attracted To Sin, is out today with “Maybe California.”
The second song to be made available for digital download in advance of the album’s release, “Maybe California” follows “Welcome To England,” which appeared in mid-April. As a pair, the songs might suggest a geographic bent to Amos’ latest effort, though of the 17 songs set for inclusion on Abnormally Attracted To Sin, they’re the only two titled after a particular place. “Maybe California,” it should be noted, isn’t exactly light fare. It’s the tale of a mother contemplating suicide, with another dissuading her: All their wishes will be dashed upon those cliffs. So let’s be strong, for you and me the night is opening.
Tori has teamed with director Christian Lamb to create videos for each of the album’s tracks — or “visualettes,” in Tori’s typically idiosyncratic parlance — all of which will be released on the deluxe edition of Abnormally Attracted To Sin. “These interlocking episodic films bring to life the narrative arc of the album,” according to the press release. Clearly out of context, then, here’s what the two have concocted for “Maybe California”:
If you’re on the fence about following Tori’s latest musical adventure, Amazon MP3 has a free download of “Maybe California,” where you can also see the visualette for another track from Abnormally Attracted To Sin, “Fire To Your Plain.”
