Though “Get On It,” the new single from London electro-soul singer Ruby Goe, trafficks in familiar pop music territory, both thematic (a lively Saturday night out) and sonic (Kelis meets Major Lazer), she’s nevertheless managed to turn out a top-notch tune.
Memorable lyrics like, “He gonna leave me walking like Bambi,” an assumptive result of her evening encounter with Mr. Saturday, are one reason why “Get On It” stands out, though it’s really Goe’s all-in performance (especially in the song’s last minute) that serves as the track’s star attraction.
The music video for “Get On It” was created in conjunction with Puma. I’m not sure how the athletic footwear and clothing purveyor came to be associated with Goe, or why the singer’s writhing in what appears to be an oil slick in much of the Thomas Knights-directed clip, but the effect is certainly attention grabbing, which is probably the very point:
