Great Pains

January 5, 2011 0 Comments

Besides having one of the best band names in the business, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart make some catchy music to boot. Take “Young Adult Friction,” a song from their 2009 self-titled debut that put the New York City noise-poppers on the map, but alas, not here on Popservations.

Tonight I rectify that indefensible oversight by spotlighting the latest single from The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Released in December, “Heart In Your Heartbreak” serves as a sneak peek of what’s coming on Belong, the band’s new album due in March, produced by Flood (U2, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers) and mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Jesus And Mary Chain, Curve).

Propelled by an insistent beat and can’t-miss melody, “Heart In Your Heartbreak” really bubbles thanks to a mix of swooning synths and guitar fizz. And with lyrics like “She was the heart in your heartbreak / She was the Miss in your mistake,” TPOBPAH’s chin-up song hits that sweet spot of indie pop that the late John Hughes so admired and I still adore.

Purchase The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart – “Heart In Your Heartbreak” via iTunes, Amazon MP3. Grab a free download of the B-side, “The One,” via Fortuna POP! and catch up on TPOBPAH with a pair of free tunes from their debut via Slumberland Records.
