One of my favorite singles of 2020, HAIM’s “Falling,” has been remixed by Leonard Friend.
The L.A.-based pop/R&B crooner (real name: Alex Feder) brings some additional heat to HAIM’s track, with a beat reminiscent of Mtume’s “Juicy Fruit” (a #1 R&B hit celebrating its 30th anniversary next month). There’s also the occasional trigger of Phil Collins’ iconic “In The Air Tonight” drum fill.
The funky bit at the end has me wishing that Friend had offered an extended 12″ version, in keeping with the era he’s referencing.

As for Leonard Friend’s own music, check out “Every Woman,” from his recently released LXLF EP (a set that also features the amazingly titled “Annie Lennox”). While “Every Woman” serves as a fantastic showcase for Friend’s falsetto (falling somewhere between Prince and Frankmusik), the music video will certainly hold your attention for reasons that will become immediately obvious to those with functioning eyeballs.
