Among new artists helping to make 2012 a super-interesting year for music is Meg Myers. After treating us to “Monster” and “Adelaide” in January, she’s returned with another free offering, “After You.” And like the other tunes Myers has shared thus far, it’s been masterfully produced by Doctor Rosen Rosen.
The piano-led “After You” presents a more contemplative but no less captivating side of Myers. Addressed to the missing-a-sweater object of her obsession (likely unaware of just how deeply her love runs), the windswept production is another raw, emotional tale the Tennessee-born singer-songwriter has fast become adept at delivering.
As I’ve said previously, Meg Myers’ arrival on the music scene portends a welcome widening of the kinds of sounds that capture our collective attention. Myers and Doctor Rosen Rosen may be stalking an alt-rock renaissance with every step they take, but the melodicism that shapes the bleeding heart of “After You” easily makes it the most pop of the songs they’ve served up to date.
Here’s to more music that blurs boundaries and opens minds.
