O Christmas Free: Mark Vidler

December 17, 2008 0 Comments

After issuing the inspired A/V treat Spliced Krispies in May (refresh your memory here), bastard-pop provocateur DJ Mark Vidler dropped out of sight. No official album surfaced as planned, and nor was there a single post as to his whereabouts on the Go Home Productions website. Until last Monday, that is, when Vidler e-mailed fans to say that after “getting my head together in the country,” he’d prepared a “festive feast” for us.

For the last six years (excepting 2005), Vidler has crafted an annual offering for the holiday season. These aren’t really Christmas tunes, but mash-ups with a noticeable nod to the yulelog. This time, Vidler updates 2002’s “Christmas On The Block” (a marriage of Jennifer Lopez’s “Jenny On The Block” and Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime”) by inviting Blondie to the party. The result is “High Tides & Blocked Peace Pipes.”

As he did for the Spliced Krispies project, Vidler cobbled together a “Hide Tides & Blocked Peace Pipes” video in his workshop for all the kids to enjoy:

“High Tides & Blocked Peace Pipes,” as well as a Christmas Stuffing compilation featuring all six of Vidler’s twisted Xmas classics, can be downloaded for free. Don’t miss “Christmas Gob,” a Madonna vs. Sex Pistols match-up given a sleigh-bell makeover.

And if you still haven’t gotten your fill of “Christmash” magic, several more sleighs-full of musical wonderment await at the Santastic project (including “Blitzkrieg Santa,” a brilliant mash-up of The Jackson 5 and The Ramones).
