Sex sells, as the saying goes, and it’s definitely done the trick here, getting me to take notice of the new Handsome Furs single, “What About Us?”

Taken from the Montreal duo’s third album, Sound Kapital, Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade) and his wife, Alexei Perri, have turned out quite the NSFW music video for the track. Directed by actor Scott Coffey (Some Kind Of Wonderful’s Ray), the “What About Us?” clip is a seedy trip through the dark night of the soul. Fitting visual accompaniment for the desperation/resignation beating at the electro-heart of the Furs’ song.

Running over five minutes long, “What About Us?” is almost two tunes in one. Its relentless synth throb changes direction at the 2:40 mark, moving into OMD territory, with a bit of David Bowie’s “China Girl” thrown in too. Thanks to the Furs’ flesh-filled video (again, super-NSFW), I didn’t miss a minute.
