[STRANGERS] reached the midway point in their free download series with September’s offering, “Don’t Lie To Me,” a track that saw the dark-pop synthpoppers traversing in Violator-era Depeche Mode territory.
Now with just three more originals to give away gratis to go, [STRANGERS] are setting your speakers ablaze with “Fires.” Following “Don’t Lie To Me,” the tonal pendulum has swung toward the upbeat end, with “Fires” shining brightly with a sunny “oh-oh-oh-whoa-oh” refrain in the chorus (a bit cheeky too, following from the preceding lyric).
“‘Fires’ is a song about wanting to do something more with your life and becoming disillusioned with your surroundings. It’s a positive song to bring people together,” [STRANGERS]’ frontman David Maddox-Jones tells Popservations. “We can imagine it being sung back by a big crowd. We didn’t write it with this in mind, but it just ended up sounding like that.”
Aim wide and large, fellas. With songs like “Fires” just the spark, I firmly believe that [STRANGERS] will be packing arenas someday, for sure.
