STRANGERS – “London Lights”

November 12, 2013 0 Comments

We’re rounding the bend of [STRANGERS]‘ monthly free download series, but before we get to the end in December, the London trio has delivered an ode to its hometown, “London Lights.”

One thing I appreciate about [STRANGERS] is the utter surprise of what sounds they’ll put together next. Coming after October’s excellent offering, “Fires,” the band keeps the pop turned on for “London Lights,” but this time with an R&B feel. And midtempo is quite right for November, I think. The garage/drum-and-bass section that kicks in after the bridge, where the track really takes off, is my favorite part.

Not to discount David Maddox-Jones’ vocals — which are ace, as always — but I could imagine subbing Rihanna in to sing “London Lights.” Though she can claim no real connection to good ol’ London town, I doubt Rihanna worries much over artistic truth. Ring her up, lads!
