While the start of Labor Day Weekend might be inspiration enough, a little Loverboy should get you even more geeked to make the most of the extended time-off:
In the spring of 1982, “Working For The Weekend” clocked out at #29—a surprisingly lackluster chart performance, considering the song has lingered in the public consciousness for over a quarter century. (It’s been heard around my office a few times this week.)
The Vancouver, Canada quintet is still at it. Last year, Loverboy released a new album, Just Getting Started, and continues to tour the summer fair/festival circuit. This Saturday, the guys will be working on the weekend, headed this way to perform at Schaumburg, Illinois’ Septemberfest.
As for Loverboy’s biggest single, that honor goes to “Lovin’ Every Minute Of It,” which hit #9 in 1985. Maybe “Working For The Weekend” would have climbed higher had they first dropped the “g” back then, but the track is still paying the bills years later.
