Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week. While the song has only recently reached mainstream saturation, “Call Me Maybe” first appeared on an EP that Jepsen released last fall in her native Canada.
It’s around that time that Abercrombie & Fitch claims to have added “Call Me Maybe” to its official store soundtrack (broadcast at eardrum-blasting decibels, no doubt). Ahead of the pop-culture curve back then and now snugly in its jeans’ pocket for summer, the clothing retailer (which really does sell shirts) “asked its hottest guys from its flagship stores all around the world to have fun with the song — film it on their phones and to do whatever came naturally. This is what the guys sent back!”
As lip-dub videos go, these fellas aren’t exactly models of accuracy. But if I found myself in the company of such chiseled specimens, lyrics would likely be the last thing on my mind too. Naturally.
