Live Love

Brits do it better.

Though Radiohead’s performance at the Grammys was pretty amazing, they’ve got nothing on Pet Shop Boys.

Last night on the other side of the pond, the poptastic duo was honored for their “Outstanding Contribution To Music” at the 2009 BRIT Awards, taking the audience on an audio/visual tour through the Tennant/Lowe songbook (including an early stop for their new single, “Love etc.”).

Joining Pet Shop Boys on this brilliantly over-the-top performance were the Killers’ Brandon Flowers and Lady Gaga, handling Dusty Springfield duties for “What Have I Done To Deserve This?” (for ADD types, that part of the medley begins at 5:06):

Can’t say I much care for Chris Lowe’s cotton candy-colored Warhol wig, but I am weirdly digging Brandon Flowers’ furry epaulets. How the married Mormon is able to carry off such flashy excess so effortlessly is beyond me.

As for Lady Gaga, it’s not the first time that she’s crossed paths with the Pet Shop Boys. They’ve remixed her song, “Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say),” which AOL Music is currently offering as a free download.

And there’s more to come from Pet Shop Boys. Their tenth studio release, Yes, is set for an international release on March 23, in regular and double-CD editions.
