I really shouldn’t have assumed otherwise, as technology is our friend and allows us to do amazing things in the 21st century, but I’m still surprised at just how good M83 sounded doing a live version of “Midnight City” on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Monday.
Best of all, the performance reminded me just how much I love the cinematic feel of “Midnight City” (from M83’s new double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming). Whenever I hear it, I so want to be riding in the back of a black town car, traversing the streets and taking in the bright lights. The city is my church!
Top job, Anthony Gonzales (my new dance crush), et al. You too, Mr. Saxophone.
