If you’ve been reading Popservations for a while, you’ve probably realized that my hip-hop tastes trend toward the hybrid type, a preference that might be reasonably traced back to 1986 when Run-D.M.C. mixed rap with Aerosmith’s rock and got a wide swath of America to “Walk This Way.”
Brothers Kentrell “Krispy” Lindsey and Alvin “Joey” Lindsey bring this rock-rap tradition into the 21st century as The Knux. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles-via-New Orleans duo released Eraser, their sophomore set, which is even more amped-up than its predecessor. Second single “Run” has The Knux teaming with Kid Cudi (another alt-rap fave), but last night they brought their electric guitar-centric, genre-blending brilliance to The Late Show with David Letterman all by themselves:
