5 for Fighting: Ludacris’ Best Guest Verses

July 18, 2011 1 Comment

I’ve long had a thing for Ludacris‘ guest raps, the moments when Christopher Bridges chimes in on another artist’s track and steals the show with his (often humorous) flow.

However, even an appearance from Ludacris can’t rescue the mess that is David Guetta’s new single, “Little Bad Girl,” a mostly-Taio Cruz track that sounds like it was partially recorded with an old electronic kids’ game from the ’80s. (If you still care, the video premiered today.)

Remembering much better moments when Ludacris jumped on the mic, here are my fave collaborations, ranked from five to one, calling out each track’s standout stanza:

5. Usher feat. Lil Jon & Ludacris – “Yeah!” (2004, #1 peak, 12 weeks)

“Forget about game, Imma spit the truth
I won’t stop ’til I get ’em in they birthday suits
So gimme the rhythm and it’ll be off with their clothes
Then bend over to the front and touch your toes”

4. Missy Elliott feat. Ludacris – “One Minute Man” (2001, #15 peak)

“Enough with tips and advice and thangs
I’m big dog, havin’ women seein’ stripes and thangs
They go to sleep, start snorin’, countin’ sheep and shit
They so wet, that they body start to leakin’ shit
Just ’cause I’m an all-nighter, shoot all fire
Ludacris — balance and rotate all tires!”

3. Ciara feat. Ludacris – “Oh!” (2005, #2 peak)

“And I keep the meanest, cleanest, baddest
Spinnin’ on stainless wheels
Could care less about your genius
I bump yo’ status, I keep the stainless steel”

2. Fergie feat. Ludacris – “Glamorous” (2007, #1 peak, two weeks)

“I’m talking champagne wishes, caviar dreams
You deserve nothing but all the finer things
Now this whole world has no clue what to do with us
I got enough money in the bank for the two of us”

1. Missy Elliott feat. Ludacris – “Gossip Folks” (2002, #8 peak)

“And respect you’ll give me
Ludacris — I live loud like Timmy!
Had to clear these rumors
I gotta headache and it’s not a tumor!”
