Last year, Bright Light Bright Light‘s pairing of Kelis and Filthy Dukes was my top mashup of 2011. In 2012, Rod Thomas brilliantly utilized such talent to promote his debut album, Make Me Believe In Hope, serving up a slew of mashups featuring his own songs over and under others’ tunes.
Wrapping up the year on a festive note, Wales’ 25th Sexiest Man of 2012 has just launched the 24 Days Of Christmas advent calendar. Every day from now ’til Santa comes down the chimney, he’ll be gifting one of these mashups to the naughty and nice alike. If you’ve been paying attention to Popservations you’ll already have many of them, while others proved trickier to track down (exclusive to a pink bootleg cassette available at one of Bright Light Bright Light’s gigs, for instance). Thomas also promises “some new surprises” to boot.
This introductory video, “Everything I Wanted,” incorporates elements of Make Me Believe In Hope‘s opening track, “Immature,” with snippets of some of Bright Light Bright Lights’ favorite films music from the ’90s. Magical:
Bright Light Bright Light’s debut 24 Days of Christmas offering is “Get Outta My Films,” which runs Kylie Minogue’s “Get Outta My Way” atop his “Cry At Films.” It’s also a mashup made for noshing, according to Thomas’ tweet: “Lovely with a mince pie (or bacon sandwich if hungover).”
Don’t miss a single mashup from Bright Light Bright Light’s 24 Days Of Christmas advent calendar. Bookmark this page to collect them all.
