Can’t Fight This Feeling

August 31, 2012 0 Comments

There once was a time that I enjoyed Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.” It was a relatively short window, mind you, probably from the time of the song’s original release in 1980 through to about 1983 or 1984 when my grade school band performed “Celebration” as the surprise closing number at its end of the year concert.

While too much radio play can wear one’s patience with even a favorite song, in the case of “Celebration,” it’s having heard it at one too many wedding receptions. Nothing makes me take a seat faster or make a beeline for the bar than hearing the opening notes of what is inarguably Kool & The Gang’s greatest hit in that context. It’s a lazy DJ’s even lazier crutch.

But here come The Knocks to bring back the party to “Celebration.” Just in time for the long weekend, the New York City duo has mashed it up with their new single, “The Feeling,” and for the first time in forever, I don’t wanna fight it:

The Knocks’ “The Feeling” is available now, with a remix EP coming 9/11 feat. Edwin Van Cleef, Seamus Haji, Lazerdisk Party Sex, and Com Truise.
