This week, Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake” reached a new peak of #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the singer her 10th top five hit. She’s got a shot at notching her seventh #1 single on the chart if she can trump Carly Rae Jepsen and Maroon 5, who’ve locked up the top two spots for seven and six weeks, respectively.
But as Perry’s latest move proves, “Wide Awake” won’t be fading from memory any time soon. And a fantastic new mashup from Bootleggers Music supports that notion, though its unofficial status won’t factor into the song’s chart performance.
The trans-Atlantic duo, featuring the slice-and-dice talents of Wayne Fysh (Kings Lynn, UK) and Teddy Vrountas (Boston, MA), have taken Perry’s end-credits movie theme and scored it to the instrumental track from Miley Cyrus’ 2009 #2 hit, “Party In The U.S.A.”
While Perry’s vocals have been noticeably sped up, Bootleggers Music’s mashup is a total teenage dream.
