In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Miley Cyrus said her “Wrecking Ball” video was inspired by Sinead O’Connor‘s classic clip for 1992’s “Nothing Compares 2 U.” That caught the attention of O’Connor, who penned an open letter to the free-swinging former teen queen, warning her of the music industry’s treatment of young women.
Responses ensued, fans and artists weighed in, and now with factions split between Team Sinead and Team Miley, mashup master Robin Skouteris has stepped in to mediate via what should matter most: the music. Marrying the two number-one hits together, Skouteris bridges two decades’ distance quite seamlessly (as does the video edit by his pal Panos T):
With Cyrus scheduled to host Saturday Night Live tonight, it’s probably naive to expect the evening to be free of any mention of this week’s back-and-forth with O’Connor. But nothing would compare to that approach.
