After a few weeks of getting a busy signal from Billboard Hot 100 champ Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen has finally bested “Somebody That I Used To Know,” reaching #1 on the chart with her pop culture juggernaut “Call Me Maybe.”
Further evidence of the broad ages-and-genres-be-damned appeal of “Call Me Maybe”? Rostam of Vampire Weekend has mashed up Jepsen’s ubiquitous hit with Annie Lennox’s 1992 smash, “Walking On Broken Glass.”
“This one is strictly for the lulz,” the multi-instrumentalist/producer writes, as if orchestrating such a cross-generational pop pairing would dim his indie cred without such a disclaimer. There should be no shame in loving great pop music of the ages, and Rostam’s combination — whether true lark or total love — is a treat for the ears.
