America is falling in love with Kelly Clarkson all over again. With near superhuman speed, she’s claimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and set a record, too.
“My Life Would Suck Without You,” the first single from her forthcoming album, All I Ever Wanted, zooms from 97 to 1. It’s the biggest jump in the 50-year history of the Billboard charts, besting Britney Spears’ record by a single notch; in October, “Womanizer”—which, it must be noted, I also adore—raced from 96-1.
Since its release last week, “My Life Would Suck Without You” has sold 280,000 digital downloads.
It’s Clarkson’s second time in this particular pole position. “A Moment Like This,” her American Idol victory song, was her first #1. Surprisingly, the near-universally praised “Since U Been Gone” only made it to #2, while five other songs from Clarkson have spent time in the top ten.
The good news continues, too. The release of All I Ever Wanted has been moved up to March 10, and tonight we’ll get a glimpse of the video for “My Life Would Suck Without You” during American Idol on Fox. AT&T will be offering exclusive access to the whole thing for 24 hours.
