Keeping track of who’s in and who’s out in The Pipettes is a tough task. Shortly after the U.S. release of the British girl group’s debut album, We Are The Pipettes, in spring 2008, two of the trio’s original members, Rosay and RiotBecki, departed. To bring the count back up to three, Gwenno was joined by her younger sister Ani and a girl named Anna. Several months later, Anna left, and Beth came on board in early 2009. She bailed by year’s end.

Now down to a duo, The Pipettes have soldiered on in a show of sisterly solidarity, releasing their sophomore album, Earth Vs. The Pipettes, in September. Produced by Martin Rushent (The Human League, The Go-Go’s), the new set discards The Pipettes’ early ’60s-centric sound in favor of a delicious dose of modern disco-pop.
