‘Higher,’ Better, Faster, Longer

February 5, 2011 0 Comments

Taio Cruz — whom I neglected to include in my quick rundown of current pop that requires no apology — has released different U.S. and UK versions of his new single, “Higher.”

For the star-spangled masses, Cruz calls upon Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, who raps about having his head on the ground but most of his body “somewhere in the clouds.” Back in Britain, Cruz is accompanied instead by the fabulous Ms. Kylie Minogue, whose presence sends the song into the stratosphere. So which side of “Higher” soars more?

No need to choose, dear Sophie, because music — as another blond pop icon so famously sang — makes the people come together. And therefore, the club mixes of Cruz’s “Higher” combine both the U.S. and UK versions for maximum dancefloor appeal. Taio, Travie and Kylie form a happy-together dance trio, making for a memorable night out. The remix by Jody den Broeder is tops with me:
