A Rollerskating Jam Named Kiki

September 8, 2012 0 Comments

On Thursday night, Scissor Sisters performed in Charlotte, North Carolina, but the band had something much bigger to celebrate than the closing of the Democratic National Convention. “Let’s Have A Kiki,” the zeitgeisty viral hit from Scissor Sisters’ album, Magic Hour, reached #1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart.

The news must have helped to soothe the terrible injustice of having to open for Pitbull.

While official remixes of “Let’s Have A Kiki” by Peter Rauhofer, Almighty, Danny Verde, Olugbenga, and The 2 Bears ushered Scissor Sisters to the penthouse for a third time (following 2005’s “Filthy Gorgeous” and 2010’s “Fire With Fire”), bootleg reworks continue to come in. It’s one of those tracks that proves irresistible to bedroom DJs and professional deck masters alike. And as has been true from the start, the band and its behind-the-scenes associates welcome and trumpet such unsanctioned “Kiki” variations.

Since I last posted about “Let’s Have A Kiki,” a mashup with Madonna’s “Vogue” amped up the camp factor exponentially. Now the latest to join what’s become the non-stop party of 2012 comes from Brooklyn production duo, Flying Horse. They’ve given “Let’s Have A Kiki” a funky, disco-house groove that will have you lacing up your rollerskates for a few laps around the rink.
