After wowing with last year’s “Desire,” featuring the vocal talents of Nomi Ruiz, Eli Escobar is poised to dazzle dancefloors once again with the release of his new EP, Work It.
The title track is another tasty slice of ’90s influenced house from the New York City DJ. This time, however, Escobar uses samples instead of a singer to serve up the sexy “Work It.” He took a similar approach to crafting the music video:
“I figured since the song is so sample heavy, using a bunch of different clips from various sources would fit it nicely even if it’s been done to death,” Escobar explains. “Plus it was way easier than doing a real video! It’s mostly a tribute to a bunch of my major influences and also some of my friends and random people dancing.”
Among those major influences? Grace Jones, Madonna (from this 1982 appearance at Danceteria), Boy George, Eddie Murphy, and a Stormtrooper are among those easily spotted in video. We also get to see Escobar working it behind the ones and twos.
