Eli’s Coming, Plants ‘Seed’ First

New York City DJ/producer Eli Escobar, who was last in the Saturdance spotlight in January with “Work It,” is currently finishing up his debut album and also has a white label 12″ on the way.

No firm dates have been set for either, but don’t think Escobar’s leaving you alone on the dancefloor in the meantime. His label, Plant Music, just launched a new podcast and look who they’ve put behind the decks for the inaugural edition. Escobar explains how it came together:

“I made this mix live in my studio and then threw some overdubs on top of it. When I’m on the road I’ll make mixes in Ableton and in clubs I’ll use CDJ’s but whenever I do a mix at home I always pull a record out, hit record, and just take it from there. I think it’s just a habit I’ve held on to since I started making mixes in high school. It doesn’t always work out but luckily this time it did. This mix consists of records I bought in Detroit, Chicago, New York and, in one case, from Roctakon’s personal collection. Hope you all enjoy it!”

Plant Music provides no tracklisting for their debut Seed 01 podcast, but it opens with a sample of Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s “Welcome To The Pleasuredome” and the MK Remix of Pet Shop Boys’ “Can You Forgive Her” makes an appearance about midway through. Escobar’s inclusion of Marc Kinchen’s mix is a surprising and welcome highlight, as I’d only recently mentioned it here.

This 60-minute tour through various genres and tempos should be enough to keep us moving in the interim while we wait for Escobar’s new grooves.
