Jessica 6’s Nomi Ruiz rides the beat

Though you might not recognize her name, Nomi Ruiz has contributed vocals to club-friendly tracks by The Ones and Hercules & Love Affair. It was through that last vehicle that the Brooklyn born-and-bred singer met keyboardist Morgan Wiley and bassist Andrew Raposo, with whom she now records as Jessica 6.

The trio, named for the Logan’s Run heroine, released its debut album, See The Light in May, preceded by the single, “White Horse.” Ruiz sounds a lot like Billie Ray Martin (with shades of dance diva Kristine W) on this percolating disco number:

While the original mix “White Horse” offers a smooth groove you can really get lost in, I really dig the Todd Terry remix. The venerable producer picks a freestyle route for his tasty Tee’s Inbox re-do:

Keeping her collaborative vibe alive, Ruiz handles vocal duties on “Desire,” the new track from New York City DJ, Eli Escobar. Taking a soulful house turn, Ruiz proves herself quite adept at adopting differing dance styles.

Surveying the set of original versions and remixes, all of which can be heard in full below, I highly recommend Escobar’s own hypnotic rework:
