Revisiting Another Time And Place

Still mourning the recent loss of disco icons Donna Summer and Robin Gibb, a new track from David Morales and Róisín Murphy proves that the groove will go on, long after we too shuffle off this mortal coil.

“Golden Era” teams the legendary New York DJ/producer with every music blogger’s favorite Irish electronic artist for a luscious disco lovin’ track that ticks all the boxes for a long-ago night under the lights — strings, horns, congas, and a soaring melody.

Morales and Murphy also step out in front of the lens for the music video, directed by Victor Buhler. The clip harkens back to an even earlier age than disco, the golden era of Gatsby, while serving as commentary on the current dance scene too.

In addition to Morales’ original Disco Mix, the rest of the “Golden Era” remix package is stellar in its own right. Dripmasters, Director’s Cut (Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper), Franco De Mulero & Hector Romero, DJ Meme, and Frederico Scavo all deliver stunning re-rubs. No surprise when the original source material is of such high quality.

“Golden Era” is the first single from Morales’ new album, Changes, due out on June 19. He’s got even more new music on the way, including a new single under his moniker The Face (“Lover That U Are,” featuring Nicki Richards on vocals) and perhaps even a possible new match-up with Mariah Carey. The duo’s club collaborations extend all the way back to 1993’s “Dreamlover,” the first time an artist re-recorded vocals for a remix, according to Morales.
