Spring ‘Feeling’

May 7, 2011 0 Comments

Summer doesn’t officially kick off for a few more weeks, so is there such a thing as a spring jam? If so, “What A Feeling,” from Italian DJ Alex Gaudino featuring Kelly Rowland, definitely takes the title for 2011.

I posted about the pair’s single upon its release in late March, but now there’s a music video, with a slew of new remixes also recently hitting the streets. Now as then, it’s impossible to resist the boundless positivity in every note of “What A Feeling.”

In comparison to Gaudino’s original version, the “What A Feeling” remixes are all, by degrees, harder edged in comparison (a tricky match for the song’s upbeat message), and several feature way too much slicing and dicing of Rowland’s vocals for my tastes. But the Nicky Romero mix allows the original vocal track to play out, while bringing in some additional Rowland ad-libs and backing bits that really make his revamp rise to the top.

On this week’s Billboard Hot 100, Kelly Rowland’s latest single “Motivation” climbs to #43. Once her Lil Wayne-featuring track plays out (certainly not my favorite by far, though I wish her chart success), “What A Feeling” would sound very much at home during the summer months. Slated next, this Gaudino-Rowland club single could blossom into more than a fleeting spring fling.
