With a run of seven Top 10 Billboard hits (plus two additional Top 20 placements), Taylor Dayne was a darling of pop radio for several years in the late-’80s and early ’90s. Following a shift in the public’s tastes, she left music behind and focused on acting. Returning to the recording studio by decade’s end, Dayne has since enjoyed a string of successful club remixes that crowned her a dancing queen.
The pop-dance music hybrid has, of course, been enjoying phenomenal popularity in the past couple of years, and now with the release a new single, “Floor On Fire,” Dayne hopes to reignite her reign in the mainstream game. It’s a strong, super-catchy song, though I must admit my disappointment over the track’s Auto-Tuning. A voice as strong and distinctive as the former Leslie Wunderman’s needs no such studio knobbery, but coming from a singer well-schooled in the music biz, I hope her acquiescence helps “Floor On Fire” catch on.
Similarly, Dayne has commissioned several remixes of “Floor On Fire,” aiming to please audiences of different stripes and geographical locations. The Thin Red Men Radio Edit is a solid place to start:
“Floor On Fire” is the first of two (or three) new tracks that will appear on a re-recorded greatest hits album Dayne is prepping for release.
