Tegan and Sara’s Twin Spin

June 5, 2010 0 Comments

Tegan and Sara have been lending their extraordinary talents to the dance scene in recent months. The Quin Twins’ 2009 album Sainthood sort of came and went on my iPod, but this spring I caught the crochet-and-confetti video for “Alligator,” which did the job of getting me to revisit the set.

Shortly afterward, Tegan and Sara released a whole album’s worth of “Alligator” remixes (17 of them, in fact). VHS or Beta, Four Tet, and Ra Ra Riot are among those invited to have a go at “Alligator.” Dance-rockers du jour, Passion Pit, give the song a bright makeover with synthy hints of 1999-era Prince and “Flashdance (What A Feeling).” It’s time for Tegan and Sara to party like it’s 1983. Tegan and Sara’s first flirtation with club queendom dates back to 2007, when they turned over The Con single, “Back In My Head,” to a multitude of remixers.

Among those who reworked the track was the master of trance, Tiësto. The indie duo must have liked what the Dutch DJ did with “Back In My Head,” since they later joined up to write and record an original song together, “Feel It In My Bones,” a standout on Tiësto’s collaboration-happy Kaleidoscope album released last fall (the song has remained on my iPod since).

A music video for “Feel It In My Bones” was released in January, the same time Tiësto issued extended versions of all tracks on Kaleidoscope. I don’t think the track made a dent on the dance charts, and that’s a shame. It deserves a huge audience. Hear here:
