Welcome Back, Kristine W

Think it’s possible that musicians have bought into this Mayan-fueled, ‘the world ends in 2012’ ridiculousness?

Probably not, but it’s still inexplicably amazing that so many big names have picked this particular calendar year to get off the bench with new material. Among the artists who’ve come back after time away include Garbage, No Doubt, The Wallflowers, The Killers, The Cranberries, Soul Asylum, Sixpence None The Richer, Ben Folds Five, Bob Mould, Alanis Morissette, Sinead O’Connor, Luscious Jackson, Aimee Mann, Bonnie Raitt, Nelly Furtado, Van Halen, Karyn White, George Michael, Madonna, and Pet Shop Boys. Even lesser known names like Esthero and Kosheen have resurfaced after lengthy absences, and I’m sure you can think of several others that I’ve missed.

Dance divas previously on pause are hitting play en masse too, with 2012 having already heralded the return of CeCe Peniston, Robin S, Suzanne Palmer, and Anastacia. And while contemporaries like Inaya Day, Crystal Waters, and Ultra Naté haven’t been entirely missing in action in recent years, those ladies are also getting out there under the disco lights before 2012 fades to black.

Make room for Kristine W on that latter list. The multi-talented Las Vegas-based singer-songwriter has scored 16 #1 dance hits to date, stretching from 1994’s “Feel What You Want” to last year’s “Fade,” a tally that puts her in fifth place behind Madonna (43), Janet Jackson (19), Beyoncé (18), and Rihanna (18). Now Kristine W is back in 2012 with the follow-up to “Fade,” a collaboration with UK dance trio Bimbo Jones called “Everything That I Got.” It’s the first single from her forthcoming album, New & Number Ones.

“Everything That I Got” features remixes by Bimbo Jones (bouncy), StoneBridge & Matt Joko (house), Subgroover (electro), and Twisted Dee (peak-hour). As has become tradition with Kristine W’s dance singles, I wouldn’t be surprised if another slew of mixes is waiting in the wings for a future release (“Fade” presented a total nine different names), but for the moment, these four will do just fine.
