I’m not quite sure what to make of British electro group Does It Offend You, Yeah? They’re all over the musical map, recalling Daft Punk, Bloc Party, The Rapture, The Killers, and Hot Hot Heat.
DIOYY’s debut is entitled You Have No Idea What You’re Getting Yourself Into, and rightly so; track to track, the band is so wildly (defiantly?) inconsistent that I can’t decide whether I’m buying the act.
That aside, I do dig their latest single, “Dawn Of The Dead.” I’m not sure if it’s the synthtastic steel drums, the Pretenders-on-the-chain-gang “ooh-ahs,” or that DIOYY’s James Rushent put down the vocoder for this outing, but the combo is working for me, yeah:
Does It Offend You, Yeah? got its name from the British version of The Office. Ready to post their first track to MySpace, the guys needed a profile name. They switched on the TV, and the first thing they heard was Ricky Gervais’ character say, “Does it offend you, yeah? My drinking?” Lifting the first half, the rest is DIOYY history.
