For those in mourning following last week’s season finale of So You Think You Can Dance (Robert was robbed!), Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have a new video treat that’ll start your week off on the right step.
Yes, that Orchestral Maeoeuvres in the Dark. The British synthpop group that saddled themselves with a mouthful of a name most often shorthanded as OMD is back. Actually, Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Malcolm Holmes, and Martin Cooper reformed the group in 2006 and have since toured together. But on September 7 (September 20 in the UK), the quartet (which I had mistakenly assumed a duo years ago) are scheduled to release a new studio album, History Of Modern, the first for this “classic” lineup since 1986’s The Pacific Age.
“If You Want It,” is the first single the forthcoming LP. It’s not a four-on-the-floor mover, but an epic piece of pop that serves as a welcome reintroduction to OMD. The music video is similarly grand, a spotlight on modern dance that features Messrs. McCluskey and Humphries (that duo confusion again) watching from the seats. Alas, Cat Deeley is nowhere to be found, but you can’t have it all:
