Get Hitch’d

Since Robyn won’t likely be dazzling our eardrums with any new tunes for the time being (after delivering three EPs’ worth, she’s on the road again), say hello to former gypsy, past circus performer, and once-homeless English singer-songwriter Neon Hitch.

If you’re looking for an electro-pop song that follows in the sad-disco footsteps of “Dancing On My Own,” you could do worse than to choose Hitch’s “Get Over U,” co-written by Sia and produced by Benny Blanco (Katy Perry, Ke$ha, Taio Cruz). It’s the first preview of her debut album, Beg, Borrow and Steal, coming this summer via Warner Bros. Records (she was signed by Kara DioGuardi). The set is so titled, Hitch says, “Because quite frankly, I have done everything to get where I am now.” That includes rooming with Amy Winehouse and co-writing Ke$ha’s “Blah Blah Blah,” something I wouldn’t exactly go shouting from the rooftops.

While “Get U Over” is super spin-worthy as a song, the video is a bit ‘whatthehuh?’. Set in a trailer park near a beach (loads of those), Hitch gets over a relationship gone sour with the help of a trio of gypsies, and bottles of water, wine, and a bathtub filled with both. Watch, and you might dismiss the tune based on visual merits alone (of which there’s an astounding deficit). So maybe you should just click play and check Facebook or something.
