If you were disappointed to discover that “Giorgio By Moroder,” Daft Punk’s collaboration with electronic music pioneer Giorgio Moroder on the duo’s new album, Random Access Memories (advance stream via iTunes), was not a dancefloor filler but an autobiographical history lesson, listen up.
Turns out Moroder had also teamed up with another party, composing an original soundtrack for a new mobile game, Racer, a Google Chrome Experiment (something to do with JavaScript and web browsers).
In some ways, Moroder’s “Racer” plays like an updated “Chase,” his theme for the 1978 film, Midnight Express (co-arranged by Harold Faltermeyer). Outfitting “Racer” with an appropriately driving beat and circular rhythms, the 73-year-old Moroder has still got his finger on the pulse of what can compel the masses to move, no matter the venue or decade.
