Alongside Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite and Christina Aguilera’s Bionic, my summer 2010 was wonderfully soundtracked by Kelis‘ Flesh-Tone. I even caught Kelis on tour that July, sharing a bill with Robyn.
Most recently associating the sounds of Kelis with warmer weather, I’m beyond thrilled that today she tweeted this:
I’m really excited, my album is done. It sounds like love and summer balled up into one!

Sounds like a perfect recipe from the Le Cordon Blue-trained chef, who also shared a new track, “Jerk Ribs.” Produced by Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio), who signed Kelis to his Federal Prism label, the song is a sultry slice of psychedelic soul, marking a move away from the club beats of Flesh-Tone and recent singles like the Calvin Harris-assisted “Bounce”.
The bass might not be as deep or propulsive this time, but you’ll still feel “Jerk Ribs” in your bones. No word on an official release date, but I bet this one will be sticking around for a while.
