We’re just about a month away from the release of Little Boots‘ sophomore album, Nocturnes. The British dance-pop songstress’ set arrives on these shores on May 5th, and coming nearly four years after Hands, it’s about time.
Little Boots says Nocturnes is “indebted to the night,” and as someone who holds albums like Pet Shop Boys’ Nightlife and Everything But The Girl’s Temperamental in high regard (both from 1999, interestingly), I look forward to losing myself in Victoria Hekseth’s late-night grooves. Nocturnes was produced by DFA Records co-founder Tim Goldsworthy, with Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford and Hercules And Love Affair’s Andy Butler among her collaborators.
In February, Little Boots released Nocturnes’ lead track, “Motorway,” as a free download, and followed up a couple of weeks back with a new single, “Broken Record.” Underscored by a driving beat, “Broken Record” is a bit Blondie in the song’s dreamy first half, and then becomes utterly hypnotic as Hekseth’s vocals are set to stutter.
