Danish purveyors of upbeat pop Alphabeat have a new single, “Love Sea.”
Available for download everywhere else in the world but the U.S. for the last month, “Love Sea” took its sweet time popping up on this side of the pond, but today is the day you can finally lap it up if you like. “Love Sea” is the second glimpse of the Alphabeat’s upcoming album, Express Non-Stop, and follows in the wake of “Vacation”, released back in March.
Speaking with Kick Kick Snare, co-lead vocalist Anders SG set expectations for the group’s third full-length:
“We’re a bit sick and tired of the simplicity in a lot of dance pop around these days and for this album we really looked way back to find inspiration. It’s as if songwriters have stopped thinking about making long lasting tunes that you will want to hear in 10 or maybe 20 years from now which is very important to us. It’s all about harder, faster, dumber.”
“Love Sea” might seem like simplistic pop to some ears, but Alphabeat’s unashamed admiration for the genre’s past and untiring dedication to ensuring their own music measures up runs very deep indeed. The beginning of “Love Sea” sets off from pure “Baba O’Riley” territory, before melding subsequent decades’ worth of reference points of into a super fun, sunny ride. Who says summer’s over? Come on — jump on in!
