If only one album could be released in 2020, I’d assign the honors to Pet Shop Boys‘ Electric. Produced by Stuart Price (Madonna, Kylie Minogue, The Killers), the iconic synthpop duo’s 12th studio album is due on July 15.
Following last month’s arrival of Electric‘s lead track, “Axis,” today Pet Shop Boys have officially released the album’s closing number, “Vocal,” following the song’s premiere this past weekend on BBC Radio 2. If you’ve spent any amount of time on a dance floor anywhere in the world in the last several decades, “Vocal” perfectly captures that universally personal experience: “And everything about tonight feels right and so young / And anything I want to say out loud tonight will be sung.”
Nearly three decades into their career, Pet Shop Boys continue to make my kind of music. Take a listen to “Vocal” below first if you must, but really there’s no reason not to click over to iTunes right away.
A CD single and 12″ vinyl release for “Vocal” is planned for July 22, with a digital bundle also in the works. Remixes included on each package will be announced shortly.
Purchase Pet Shop Boys – “Vocal” via iTunes.
