Written and produced with Paul Epworth, “Rolling In The Deep” is the first single from Adele’s sophomore set. She’s described the song as a “dark bluesy gospel disco tune,” and though I don’t hear the disco, I do hear echoes of Florence + The Machine, with whom Epworth has worked and for whom I carry quite the blazing torch. Adele sees a similarity with her new tune and her breakthrough song, “Chasing Pavements,” admitting that you can’t really roll in the deep, either.
The video accompaniment for the Web premiere of the song provides a peek behind the scenes of Adele’s recording sessions in Malibu with Rick Rubin, who produced much of 21, but interestingly, not “Rolling In The Deep”:
Adele will perform “Rolling In The Deep” live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on December 3, with a proper video to premiere sometime that month as well.
