Track of the Moment

[STRANGERS] – “Something New”

Speaking to Popservations last December, [STRANGERS]‘ frontman David Maddox-Jones couldn’t divulge when we’d hear new music from the London trio, except to say that they’d been writing loads for their debut album.

StrangersFeb2020Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long, as [STRANGERS] premiered a new single late last week. Aptly titled “Something New,” the song is a collaboration with producer Dimitri Tikovoi (Placebo, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Little Boots, Charli XCX) and serves as the band’s debut for new label Just Off Pop. Crystal Fighters’ Eleanor Fletcher contributes backing vocals on the track.

Surely the most accessible single [STRANGERS] have put forth thus far, fans of the band shouldn’t fear “Something New.” Maddox-Jones, drummer Raife Hacking, and synthman Piers Sherwood-Roberts may be working with someone new, but they’ve kept their darker inclinations intact while exploring new textures to draw us in and keep us there. “Something New” is mesmerizing moody pop. Jump in, jump in.

[STRANGERS] – “Something New” is released with B-side “Never Enough” on May 13.
