…and that’s when my TiVo recording of the American Idol finale stopped. Packed from front to back with contestant medleys and guest artists (Seal, Donna Summer, Bryan Adams, Graham Nash, ZZ Top, OneRepublic, Jordin Sparks, and George Michael), the show hit the two-hour mark at the very moment Seacrest paused before saying the winning David’s surname.
So when my delayed double-dose abruptly ended around 11:30 pm last night (well past the live airing), I had to turn to the Interweb for the news. Muy triste. Archuleta may have knocked out Cook on Tuesday night’s show (in the moment, anyway, according to Cowell), but Cook catapulted ahead of him, capturing the crown by more than 12 million votes.
Of course, there’s probably no point in obsessing over the results, because while David C. holds the title, a gazillion screaming Idolators remain hungry for a little David A. action. I’m sure the enterprising Clive Davis is already planning a poptastic sundae with Archuleta’s aw-shucks grin as the attractive cherry on top.
