Looks like Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn may be setting up shop elsewhere next season. Lifetime has sewn up a five-year deal for Project Runway, snatching it from Bravo beginning with the series’ sixth season this fall.
The cable network is certainly in need for a marquee series (a function that Project Runway serves for Bravo), though I’m not so sure this fashion competition is the perfect fit. I still think of Lifetime as the home for made-for-TV movies about women in peril and gauzy production values. (Homeless to Harvard, anyone?)
NBC Universal, Bravo’s parent company, is suing Runway‘s producers for breach of contract. If the deal stands, all involved will just have to “make it work”—including us. No matter where the runway eventually rests, the fashion designers’ showcase remains a cut above the reality rest.
