So what did you think of the final performance show of this season’s So You Think You Can Dance? I can’t say I was particularly blown away by any one routine. Courtney and Katee’s Broadway bid was a snore (oops, I’m sorry, guest judge Mandy Moore, “effortless”) and Joshua and Twitch’s Russian Trepak only made me recall just how powerful last season’s “Two Princes” routine with Danny and Neil had been.
I was even disappointed by the final number, choreographed by Mia Michaels and featuring all four dancers. Maybe my expectations were just too high; I’m a big Michaels fan, and she usually crafts something astounding, but this was all too frenetic and unfocused. And who really welcomed the return of Wade Robson? At least he wasn’t falling back on Thriller zombie moves this time ’round.
Hostess with the mostest Cat Deeley, however, took home the gold. Looking smashing and fantastic as always, I did enjoy her pre-taped, “best-girlfriend” chats with the contestants.
Perhaps it was all in the timing; my SYTYCD date with TiVo didn’t get underway ’til 10:30 or so, wrapping things up shortly before midnight. Should I chalk up my lack of enthusiasm to being too tired to pay close enough attention?
Tune in tonight to see whether Courtney, Katee, Joshua, or Twitch is America’s Favorite Dancer. Kherrington and Mark were my early favorites, so now it’s down to Katee and Twitch.
