Yay! Christian Siriano departed as victor of last night’s Project Runway finale. Loved his Fashion Week showcase (except for that choking, too-ruffled top that twice-baffled Tim Gunn). Not only did the pieces indulge Christian’s flair for the dramatic, you could see the consistency of the collection as a whole. His unique vision was threaded through every piece.

Conversely, I felt that Jillian’s and Rami’s collections were all over the place (some gorgeous garments, to be sure, but not a singular story). When the judges and contestants met face to face following the Bryant Park showdown, I really did think Rami was going to be rewarded. And even more so when Jillian was almost immediately auf’d, leaving Rami and Christian.

It looked as though Christian doubted he was going to win, too. And that made the announcement all the better. I was quite moved (unexpectedly so) at the moment Heidi Klum said he’d won.

That Christian had some fierce Girl Power in his corner likely only helped. As I’m sure Victoria Beckham would agree, this talented, artful designer has a major future ahead of him.
